Keep Norway Clean ("Hold Norge Rent") is a nation-wide effort to combat littering of public areas; streets and parks, lakes and beaches, mountain and forest areas, tourist attractions, roadsides etc. This is combined with the intention to improve waste management more in general (waste separation and recycling).

The campaign is launched as a joint venture between national and local authorities, NGOs and private companies. Many of the country's largest organisations and institutions have signed up with the campaign platform and will support the campaign through activities and financial support: ministries, the major grocery retailers, local municipalities, environment organisations, the tourist authorities and hotels/restaurants, the national road authorities etc.

The campaign will focus on three main messages:

  • Do not litter. We will all benefit from that
  • Pick up the litter, when you see it
  • Use the established systems for waste separation and recycling

2004 was a pilot year for "Hold Norge rent", where the basic elements will be developed and tested and experienced collected. 2005 has been the first campaign year

In 2006/2007 campaign activities will be focused on the following fields:

  • Littering along public roads and highways
  • Littering along the coast
  • Collection of metal/machines and dangerous waste from farms
  • Littering of city centres

In due course the campaign may be turned into a public foundation to combat littering on a more permanent basis, if the partners come to that conclusion and finances prove to be available.
